Oxford is a world-leading centre for study of the social sciences.

Over 5,000 students are enrolled on our wide-ranging, innovative programme of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, all underpinned by the ground-breaking research of our academics. 

The Division's supports our departments and faculties to deliver excellent teaching and learning across undergraduate and postgraduate education, enabling students to develop a greater understanding of all aspects of our complex societies and tackle the major challenges facing humanity in the 21st century.  

Staff in the Division's Academic Office undertake educational quality assurance work in conjunction with departments, faculties, and the central university, and provide dedicated graduate studies assistance to a number of the division's units. The Office is also responsible for developing the division-wide research and skills training programme for doctoral students and for managing the funding and strategic development of the ESRC Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership

Supporting and recognising teaching excellence

To recognise and enable efforts to continuously improve our education offering across the Division, the team hosts an annual awards scheme.

The Teaching Development and Enhancement Project Awards (TDEP) delivers grants to support projects focused on enhancing the learning experience for students at all levels, while Teaching Excellence Awards celebrate colleagues across the Division who have made outstanding contributions to teaching, learning and the academic development of students.
