Renewed Bronze Athena Swan accreditation for the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography

We are delighted to share the news that the SAME (School of Anthropology & Museum Ethnography) Bronze Athena Swan Award has been renewed for five years.

The Athena Swan Charter is a global framework that helps to promote gender equality within higher education and research institutions.

The renewed accreditation demonstrates the department's ongoing commitment to tackling gender inequalities and barriers to career progression.

Eleven of the departments and faculties within the Social Sciences Division hold Athena Swan bronze awards. The School of Geography and the Environment holds an Athena Swan silver award.

SAME has outlined its priorities for 2023-2028:

  • Empower the new EDI committee to serve as the hub of gender    equality action across the school.
  •  Improve career progression, particularly for colleagues on fixed term contracts.
  • Continue to address gender bias in student admissions, attainment, and recruitment.
  • Work to strengthen School culture to foster inclusivity and a sense of belonging.
  • Expand work against bullying and harassment.

Congratulations to SAME on this award, and the recognition of its continued dedication to promoting gender equality.
